Frozen Shoulder

With our busy and active lifestyles frozen shoulder has become a great topic of discussion, gaining a lot of attention in the medical community.

What is Frozen Shoulder?
According to medical dictionaries Frozen Shoulder is “the constant severe limitation of the range of motion of the shoulder due to scarring around the shoulder joint

Frozen shoulder is the common name adhesive capsulitis; this is an inflammatory condition in which the range of motion in the shoulder is restricted.

The most prominent symptoms of frozen shoulder 's are pain and stiffness with the inability to lift the arm above their head and a limited range of motion of the shoulder joint. Movements such as reaching overhead, reaching in your back pocket or trying to put on a jacket can excruciatingly painful.

With the shoulder joint having the widest range of motion compared to other joints in the body and having the ability to perform a multitude of tasks makes it especially vulnerable to injury. Any type of injury to the shoulder can lead to frozen shoulder, including tendonitis, bursitis, and rotator cuff injury. Any type of long-term immobility of the shoulder joint can put you at risk for frozen shoulder.

Frozen shoulder is usually treated with an assertive combination of NSAID Non Steroid Anti-inflammatory Drugs, cortisone injections and physical therapy. If this treatment is not taken a frozen shoulder can be permanent. It is very important for people with a frozen shoulder to avoid re-injuring the shoulder tissues during this rehabilitation period. They should avoid sudden or jerky motions, and heavy lifting that affected shoulder.

Frozen shoulder pain can also become increasingly worse with the wrong sleeping posture, this happens when the injured side is not allowed to get adequate rest to recover and recuperate and obtain its normal range of motion while sleeping. If you sleep on your side, you're more than likely putting your shoulder through tremendous strain and pressure. And for those tend to sleep with the arm under their head, it can get worse, as your arm works non-stop to support the weight of your head and to align your neck with the upper back. You can increase the mobility of your shoulder joint by simply changing your pillow.

One way is by using the Better Sleep Pillow, patented, doctor developed, urethane memory foam pillow is unique in its multi-positional contoured design which has a recessed portion for your arm along the entire length of the pillow and through the underside, allowing you to sleep in a position that is most natural for your body. This recess provides support to your arm, head and neck, eliminating pain caused by frozen shoulder or rotator cuff injuries, alleviating numbness and tingling, or arm sleep that can occur during the night. This contour pillow is shaped to distribute forces away from the shoulders and arm, allowing your arm to
rest unrestricted, without the weight or strain that comes from resting your head directly on the surface of your arm.

Not getting adequate rest can lead to a whole other set of problems such as day time drowsiness, work accident, motor vehicle accident, heart disease, breathing disorders and depression. So why not treat your pain and get good nights sleep by using the Better Sleep Pillow?
